News for 2008: We're equipped with GPS now!

From our base near Avignon and Cavaillon, Provence, southern France, Skovgaard Europe proposes a personal minibus limousine transportation from door to door.

If you are a business traveller, you most likely have little time to waste in public transport. We can make your trip easier, quicker, more reliable and more comfortable.

The ochre path in the Roussillon village in the Lubéron, Provence.

Cast and film crews also need local transportation during shootings. We're at your service.

If you are visiting Provence with a small group of tourists, we can help you with airport transfers, Provence tours, wine tasting excursions and other trips.

Cruise passengers will appreciate our full or half day tours of Provence from the port of Marseille and the Avignon pier, for example to the Luberon and the many Roman ruins such as the Pont du Gard, the arenas and theatres in Nîmes, Arles and Orange, Vaison la Romaine, Glanum and more. And of course, we can get you from the airports in Marseille, Nîmes, Avignon and Toulon to your cruise port in Arles, Marseille or Toulon.

If you are a local traveller from Provence, whether as part of a group needing airport transfers, sightseeing, business travel or whatever, you are of course as welcome as anyone else.

"Just a short note to say how much we appreciated your efficient and friendly service on 21 & 25 May [2007]. Best regards, J Gibson"

Getting around between airports, hotels, TGV and other railway stations, ports, harbours, cruise ports, piers, cities, towns and sights in this region is not always obvious for tourists and business travellers using public transport. If you use a hire car, you end up spending your time reading maps or programming your GPS, or you may get lost on your way from the airport to your hotel at midnight. If you use a shuttle, they don't take you to the door, and you can figure out yourself how to get to your hotel one mile from where you are - on foot and with your suitcases to carry. Is a taxi within your budget? How do you find out, and does the taxi driver speak English? Can you book a taxi in advance? How much space does a taxi have for passengers and luggage? We make it all very simple.

We have thought about your luggage too. Many cars have space for 7 passengers and the driver - and 2 suitcases! Our long version of the Toyota Hiace takes 7 passengers and ALL your suitcases. On the photo, we have placed just 2 suitcases of usual size to illustrate the capacity.

The third row of seats folds in one minute, vastly extending the space for luggage in case of a up to 4 passengers travelling with an exceptional amount of luggage.

Health and Safety

Under French law, all passengers must wear seat belts during the journey. In case of a police control, each passenger not wearing a seat belt can be subject to an on-the-spot fine. All seats are equipped with 3-point seat belts and headrests.

SMOKING is strictly FORBIDDEN in the vehicle.

The minibus is equipped with ABS, airbags and seat belt pre-tensioners in front, and lateral side bars to protect passengers from side impacts.

Child seats are provided at no extra charge on certain itineraries.

Please refer to our Terms and Conditions for full details.

Prices 2008

Prices valid 18 May to 31 December 2008.

You will be given a fixed price quotation before booking. The quotation will be based on the following rates, all inclusive of VAT (tax) and road tolls. For longer trips, a quantity reduction can be given.

The price is the same regardless of the number of passengers and the quantity of luggage (if the luggage volume does not exceed the vehicle's luggage volume), so the more passengers, the lower the cost per passenger.

The price is composed of the following elements:

Service distance: 0.23 € per km that we need to drive without you on board (to get to the pick-up point and return from the destination).

Hourly rate for the time you are on board:
08:00-24:00 (8 AM - 12 PM): 20.00 €
Thos rate is increased 50% from 0:00 to 08:00 (0 AM go 8 AM) and for the part of any single itinerary that exceeds 12 hours.
If a journey falls in both time periods, the hourly cost will be calculated separately for each time period.

Service duration:
Hourly rate for the time you are not on board (waiting, getting to the pick-up point and returning from the destination, accompanying you during excursions...):
08:00-24:00 (8 AM - 12 PM): 15.50 €.
The following flat-rate waiting periods apply:
Airport transfer pickup: 45 minutes.
Port or harbour pickup: 45 minutes.
River or canal pier pickup: 25 minutes.
Train station pickup: 25 minutes.

Road tolls at cost price.

An administrative fee of 10 € per itinerary.

A global fee of 2% to cover the average cost of bank or credit card fees.

Fully Flexible is an option to allow changes, refunded cancellations and no-shows. Cost: 5% of the price for the trip. Please refer to our Terms and Conditions for full details. The flexible option is suitable if you do not have a travel insurance that refunds cancelled trips.

FAQ

Do you provide child seats?
Yes, and at no extra charge, on certain itineraries but not all. Please ask.

This is much too expensive for me. Are there any budget options?
Not from us, but we recognise that different budgets require different prices. There are airport buses and shuttles to and from Marseille Airport including the new low-cost terminal mp² that the budget airlines Ryanair, Easyjet, BmiBaby, Jet4You and MyAir fly to. The airport buses and shuttles can get you to Marseille, Aix en Provence, Toulon, Cavaillon and Avignon. For further information, please visit Marseille Airport's site. From the recently renovated and extended railway station and bus terminal Marseille Saint Charles, you can take the bus or train to many more destinations. Check out the national train company SNCF's site for information. Neither in an airport bus, shuttle nor train will you get the same service as you get from us, but they propose fair fares for fair budgets.

Is this a taxi (cab) service?
No, we have a different type of licence than taxis (cabs) have.

What's the difference from a taxi (cab)?
Taxis (cabs) are allowed to pick their customers up in the street. We only transport passengers after prior booking.
Taxis (cabs) use a meter to calculate the price. We quote a price in advance.
Taxi (cab) fares are regulated. Our prices are not.
You never know in advance if a cab driver speaks your language. We provide a driver you can talk to in English, French, Danish, German, Norwegian and Swedish.
A taxi transports you from A to B and nothing else. We can provide added value services such as cold drinks.

Do you provide luxury sedans or classic cars?
No.

Are you cheaper than a taxi?
That depends on the itinerary and more. The price of a cab is not calculated the same way as our prices.

Are you providing any shuttle or scheduled services?
We don't provide any scheduled services, but we can provide an isolated shuttle service for a group of people.

In the United States, such a service would be only half as expensive. Why is it so expensive?
French fuel taxes make fuel more than twice as expensive in France as in the United States. 13 March 2008, one US gallon of unleaded gasolene cost US$7.93 in France when dispensed by a discount outlet. At the fuel consumption rate of a minibus, a 50-mile trip (meaning a 50-mile empty return trip too) costs $42 just in gasolene.
French 'freeways' are not free but mostly toll roads. Typically, for an airport transfer, 10% of the price you pay us is for tolls. The tolls are close to US$0.25 per mile at an exchange rate of 1.5477 USD/EUR. 50 miles on the 'freeway' thus costs $12.50 each way, or $25 in total, as we obviously have to go both ways.
The French regulations for transportation and employment are very rigorous, and taxes and social charges are in general very high, at least 50% of profits.
Add to this the ordinary costs of leasing, insurance, cleaning, annual roadworthiness tests and maintenance.
The generally higher cost of goods and services increases overhead.
The present euro/dollar exchange rate is amplifying the above factors.
